Monday night about 7:00p.m. I get a call from my panicked son, telling me to come pick him up & take him to the ER, he's having chest pains. (preface... he's FINE!) Well, with our family history of heart problems, he got nervous. So, I tell him, hang up with me & call 911. "You call." "I can't, they will register as the call coming from my house. You need to call so they know where to go!!" (I learned this when I had my memory loss episode. (Oh... yeah... it's been TWO years now since that happened!!!) If you don't know about that... check out my home page & my favorite blogs.)
Anyway... So, I turn the scanner on, waiting to hear his address when my sister called & said, go be with him. I asked "did he call them yet?" "He is now." And at that moment I heard his address... & Then I panicked. Thinking, ok... he's serious, he did call 911. At which I told my sister, "Ok, it just went across the scanner. I got to go."
Hung up the phone hollered to my hubby (who was on his phone) "I need you to get off the phone now, it's important!!!" Told him plain out, I had to go, Mike needed me... & I grabbed my little wallet thing, keys & hopped in the truck. Called my sister back & said, "call him, tell him I'm on my way. I have to go, because I'm speeding."
I turned on to the road & thankfully it was not where the cops usually hang out trying to catch speeders... & thankfully none were on the way. Because... I flew there! What usually takes me about 4 minutes to get to... took me about 2!! I didn't look at my speed, because I was too worried about looking out for something that my pop up & I'd have to hit the brakes.
I get there & he's being checked over by the EMT's. He kept telling me to go home & I said no. I knew he hadn't slept & didn't eat well over the weekend. But I didn't know at that time he had a ton of caffeine & sugar drinks. And to top it off he had been lifting a lot of steel at school that day. (Yep, he's still there! ~ Welding!)
So... after hours (I mean HOURS) after 2 a.m... at the ER... a doctor comes in & says he just needs to get some sleep, lay off the sugar & caffeine. & Gave him a sedative. & told him to stay home from school. What had me upset was that they didn't have him on a heart monitor... I mean for crying out loud his chief complaint was chest pains... & we told them several times that it was in our family. The nurse said that the other nurse assessed him & said he was not in need for one. (At this time I asked they take his vitals again... it had been 4 hours since he was taken in. & they hadn't taken them or even checked on his welfare!)
By the time we got out, I was so upset. Thankfully the shift change brought on better nurses. & we finally got out a bit after 2 a.m... & by that time he was feeling just fine... I wasn't... I was tired, hungry & getting stiff. ... They gave him a sandwich & we were on our way. All the time Mike kept saying he was going to school the next day.
I get home & 1/2 hour later, he calls & says he's not going to go. I said that it's good he listens to the doctor. (I have a feeling the sedative had finally kicked in.) So... all is good & he was lucky in a way that he didn't have to go to school Wednesday, either, because they had some teacher in service day. So, he did make it yesterday and today.
Maybe being excited about Welding for this long he will actually stick it out! We'll see!!
So, I've been sleeping during the day this week... & staying up really late. Finally this evening I was able to get up & get to the grocery store. & on my way home I noticed the moon...
It was glorious! Not full... but it was BIG & had that harvest color to it. It was just beautiful... I had only wished I had a great digital camera to get a shot of it... & wished I had it with me.
Well... that does it for this edition. Take care all. Time for me to ride into the Moonrise!!
Sounds like a very worrying time for you. Sounds in fact like you've had plenty of worries about your son. How old is he?
ReplyDeleteHe just turned 19 a little over a month ago.
ReplyDeleteI still think he just strained himself lifting all the steel at school on Monday.
oh, 19, a difficult age, he probably thinks he's all grown up now and you probably still feel he's a child. is he your only one?
ReplyDeleteGlad everything was fine in the end. As a recent ER attendee, I know how frustrating they can be!
ReplyDeleteyes... yes... & yes! (One & only... & will be... if I end up pregnant again... everyone better be on their knees... for I had a full hysterectomy.)
ReplyDeleteGlad he's ok - I know you were worried! I hope it didn't make you sick!
