I like others have received a PERSONAL message from an unknown contact that contains a video. They say you look familiar & ask you to click the video.... do NOT... It's a VIRUS... a few friends said their spyware or anti-virus caught it. Just report (if you want) the person and at the very least block them!!!! (If it's not a virus... it's probably a "dirty" video.) ~ Just helping pass the warning along!
I got one and ignored it. I clicked back to the inbox and clicked on the circle with the X so that it's gone into that big black hole that Multiply decrees is 'out of sight' man!
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah... I did that too!... well, hit the X that is ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I got too, said a nice big "thank you" to my security program, and blocked the "users." I strongly suspect they are hackers.
ReplyDeleteGot one too and reported it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even want to chance clicking it... too suspicious... & I saw the message before I saw all the posts about it.
ReplyDeleteOkies, it may or may not be a virus, but it's a good practice in internet hygiene. The first thing that tipped me off was that it was an image, not a video, and that it was a link. You can spot these by right-clicking on them and selecting "properties" (there's easier ways for those who know how).
ReplyDeleteBut you should never EVER click on anything from someone you don't know. EVER. Did I mention EVER??? It applies to emails, websites, everything. Even if the site LOOKS legit.
Many of these aren't viruses, but they ARE scams or malware. I am a low-level computer tech, and even I know enough to be able to 'drop' a self-installing program that gives me access to everything on your computer and even allows me to CONTROL your computer. I use a user-permission version to help my friends with their computers (not sure if I ever did this with you, Lady), but it's a simple matter to 'silently' drop one in. So you leave your computer for a few minutes to go get coffee and voila, I have all your bank account info. Now, if I can do that as a low-level tech ... imagine what these career folk can do!
I advise going to the user's page, clicking the 'report user' link, and blocking them. They are spawning multiple accounts (I've had it from a few different ones), but they may be able to trace IP or something to permanantly block them.
ReplyDeleteNo, you haven't had to as of yet... & yeah... it's scary what some can do.
ReplyDeleteNow, if only I can get my son to realize this... then maybe I wouldn't have to worry about him so much. (Thankfully he doesn't have bank accounts & stuff like that on his computer. (NO, I will NOT be fixing his computer again... & he knows it... not that it's messed up... yet!)
Yeah... even sometimes you should NOT click links from even those you know. one of my cousin-in-law's email was hacked & emails are still being sent from it with "no subject" but a link in the body... & it was obvious that it was a scam.
Anyway... I agree! :)
I got that video also, and went to see who sent it before I would click on it. They had nothing in their info, so I just deleted the message
ReplyDeleteI've gotten that video message twice now. I think I'm going to block the user this time. I just ignored it the first time.
ReplyDeleteIt turns out that my two video message thingies were from two different users. I've blocked them both.
ReplyDeleteThat's why they need to be reported hon. Block them, and they'll just send from yet another profile. If there's enough reports, the IP will be blocked.
ReplyDeleteYep, I received a 2nd one today, also... Reported and blocked and deleted message! Yes, from different user name also. I sure hope Multiply be able to track down who is doing this... or the people behind it!
ReplyDeleteIf I get any more, I'll be sure to report the person before I block them. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteGot a message today in my email inbox that I had a Multiply PM with a video. I signed on to get rid of it (I never open anything from anyone I do not know). It had already been removed. Good work, guys! :)
ReplyDeleteGot it from 3 different people.. Blocked, vid would not even load, and also reported to multiply... Thanks for the heads up... Hope you are doing well.. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteInteresting detail... thank you for that update! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you mean that it wouldn't load when you clicked the message and not the video link! If you clicked the video link... start running your anti-virus, anti-malware & any other stuff you have to scan your computer... because if you clicked to see the video... you might have a virus now.
ReplyDeleteMe, I'm doing so-so... I'll post a blog one of these days to catch you all up. I just have not been in the blogging mood... nor in any creative writing mood. (This month is National Novel Writers Month (aka NaNoWriMo) where we are challenged to write at least 50,000 words for a novel... & I'm still sitting at a big ol' goose egg!) Just can't get motivated!
I have ideas for stuff... just can't get myself to start writing in novel form! :-/
Anyway, I hope you're computer (and YOU) are doing ok as well! *HUGS* back! :)
