So stupid of me... All I was going to do (last night) was step outside to get close enough to the tree to take a picture of the ice build up & share with you all...
That's it (above picture), the picture I was trying to get last night... but was hoping last night the flash would catch on the ice & sparkle for the camera... I should have just waited until this morning, like I did with this photo above!! LOL... (Oh, I'll be posting some more photos in my albums in a little while.) & This time they were all taken from inside my house... no going out & making things worse!!! LOL
Uh... DUH, Becky... if it's an ice storm, there's going to be ice on the steps! Even with an overhang! (Nope, that never crossed my mind! Until AFTER I fell!)
See, I tried to take it with just propping open the screen / storm door. But when the flash went off it focused on the Christmas lights still hanging on the over hang around the porch. So, I thought, if I could just get past the lights...
Well, 1 step out on to our concrete steps (wearing my slippers) my foot went right out from under me & boom boom boom my behind went down on each of the steps & then finally boom on to the concrete porch.
Each step was covered in a thick layer of smooth glassy ice. I did not have enough time to react to grab the screen door on my way down.
And with each step my tush landed on, I thought for a brief millisecond that I would stop, but before I could even finish the thought I kept slipping.
Soon as I did land I knew it was not good. I was screaming "OW... OW... OW" & If it hadn't been for the fact I had propped open the door (you know that little thing you slide on the swing bar at top of screen doors)... if that hadn't been wide open & the other door wasn't open, I would have yelled until one of my neighbors could come help me up.
BUT, seeing how I did... & Coleman was standing right at the door... I did not want to wait & have him possibly come out & slip down the steps too.
Though, thinking about it, I think he saw what happened & probably thought "Ok, Mom, I'm not coming out after. I don't want to join you in pain." (LOL)
I can only joke about it now because I am sitting here propped up with pillows & have $HIBA (my new laptop, if you hadn't seen that info before!) on a "bed in breakfast tray"... That sounds like normal to you... (if you know me it might)...
Well, with a slight difference... Usually I have the tray flat & resting on my legs. I thought it would be way too much pain, so I have the legs propping it up.
Also, I have an extra pillow behind my back & bigger pillows on my sides (than normal) to hold my arms up a little bit... to make it less strenuous while I type.
As long as I don't move much the pain is lessened quite a bit... but soon as I go to move one way or the other... YOWCH!!!
Oh, get this... what's odd is before this happened I had just gotten up from a short nap & took 3 ibuprofen (IB) for the major headache I was trying to get rid of. So much of a headache I did not go vote yesterday. I'm so bummed! I think now, had I gone with hubby to vote & went to our HOG meeting... I might not have fallen down! LOL... The irony!!
Anyway, it had only been about 2 or 3 minutes since I had taken the IB & so, I knew I wouldn't be able to take anymore for a bit.
Well, it just so happened my headache disappeared... but the pain in my back was exponential!!
To get back to it... I finally rolled over & got up on my knees & grabbed the opened screen door & pulled my self back up the slickery steps. Screaming OW OW the whole time!
I figured I didn't TOO much damage as I was able to reach up, barely, to push the slider thing back so that the screen door could shut. I was feeling as if I was going to pass out... So, I sat down as quick as possible & typed a quick message to my dear friend Autumn Sunshine (whom I was talking to via Yahoo Messenger (YM) but was taking a quick potty break.)
Anyway, I said I need to call you... & I have no idea why I called her 1st. She lives in Tx & I am in Ohio... what could she have done.
Well, it turns out she helped calm me down... (Sorry by the way for my language, Autumn.) After that, I promptly called my mom...
She's like, where's your hubby? I told her at the HOG meeting... which I should have been at. Anyway she told me to either call him or an ambulance.
I really didn't want to go to the hospital, because I really don't think there is anything they could have done.
So, I tried to call hubby on his cell... but he wasn't answering ... I text him a 911 message & said needed him to answer... I gave it a couple minutes before trying again.
Still no answer. So I rang up Hale's (the Harley dealership where the meetings are held.) Asked the guy who answered to pull Hubby from the meeting & ask him to call me... but instead of hanging up... he put me on hold & got hubby.
I briefly told him what happened & said I needed him to come home right away. He said he was on his way.
By the time he got home the pain was getting worse... I thought for a moment, maybe I should go to the ER... but he agreed that they would do nothing but take a bunch of x-rays & tell me to lay flat on my back.
I said, ok. Just help me up for right now, because I have to pee. (I know TMI, huh?! LOL)...
After a slow trek to the restroom, he helped me back to the couch & told me to lie flat. (He knows from experience about back pain. He was involved in a car accident, in high school, in which he took out the seats with his back. (He was sitting in the middle of 2 friends in a pick up truck.)
I finally got laid down when I realized I hadn't eaten yet. So, hubby warmed me up my left over pizza from night before. (Very good!) & I had to sit back up.
Then I remembered we still had some of Hubby's pain killers left from when he cut his hand back in late August. (Tramadol) (sp?) With only 3 of them left I was going to only take 1... but he said, take 2! So, I did... & sure enough the pain subsided A TINY bit!!
Oh, yeah, by that time, I had already sent you all a quick message via a review & then shut $HIBA down completely.
By the way... Thank you all for your get well wishes! :)
Since all this happened at night, it was too late to call the doctor's office. To have some pain killers called in... well, it didn't matter... because I had to have hubby go get my Ambien CR refill anyway... So, with the Tramadol & a few hours later my Ambien... I slept fairly well last night.
Woke up this morning after hubby left for work. I was able to roll off the couch & walk to the bathroom without too much strain. Painful, yes... but not as slow as the night before.
Grabbed my self a cup of decaf & proceeded to set up my little "computer haven" LOL.
Called the doctor's office & left a message... basically begging them to call me in some pain killers right away so the pharmacy can deliver them today! (So, I don't have to wait for hubby to get home to get them.)
Now you're up to speed with what's been happening! SOOOOO... what happening in your neck of the woods??
Oh, if you didn't read the review... here's a tip... Do NOT go out into an ice storm down concrete steps in slippers!! LOL
Du'oh!! LOL... One blessing about all this is... Thankfully I don't have a job to worry about calling off of! LOL
My only job is trying to figure a way to make money with $HIBA!! (Hence the $$ instead of an S!)
By the way, did I tell you what $HIBA stands for?? It's Sheer Heavenly Inspiration By Ability!! :)
Well, that's all for now. I'm needing to get up for a moment again. So, I'll talk to you all on the next stop...
Hope you enjoyed your ride aboard "The Rambling Train"!! :)
