As I mentioned in yesterday's quick blog, I had to go to the farm this morning to work on the plans for the big party on the 5th...
Well, Mom & I compiled a list of names & how many we think that might come if they all were to show up... & at this moment we're at 164 guests!!! Told you it was going to be big!!! But of course... that's not a final count or anything like that... & not all that's family... however the majority of it is... over 50 of them!
So, anyway, here is MY list of to do... SO FAR... I have to make a formal invite (with a map) to email to all & to mail to those who are still in the stone age
It's a good thing Mom does this only every other year... or so!! (Though it's been a few years since the last one. Not that it matters anyway.) Anyhoo... that's my list so far.
Oh... Mom & I also put together an outline of what is needed & who will be in charge of bringing and / or set up.
I already told Mom, don't be surprised if I run & hide at some point. But then again... maybe not... because I volunteered to be in charge of the "Texas Hold 'em Tournament".
Ok... with all that said... does anyone have any ideas you think we might incorporate... & maybe things for the kids to do... there will be quite a few of them! :) We've already planned on having a checkers table. It just would be great to have some back up plans... AND anything at no cost would be great... My mom is already starting to fret a little about how much all the rental stuff (like the 20'x20' tent) will be. All ideas welcomed.
How about a tip before I pull this train into the station... certain prescription containers make for a great way to carry Q-tips (cotton swabs)... at least the ones I get are just the right size!! :)
Well that does it for this trip... hope you all enjoyed your ride!!
As usual.........what a ride!!
ReplyDeletewow...you have been busy!!
ReplyDeletehere's a tip for you: i have an old prescription bottle that i have washed out and out staples in. the old box got wet and runined, and that was the first thing i found to put them in, it works great!!
Wow your 1 busy bear...lol
ReplyDeleteSounds this is going to be 1 great party
Hugs
Phew! I'm tired just reading it!
ReplyDeleteentertainment for the kiddos? find a willing adult to supervise and have a scavenger hunt! Or better yet a treasure hunt. Make a list of clues and the kids have to find them. Nothing involved in this but time. Make the clues age appropriate. divide the kids into teams and send them off with a time limit.
ReplyDeleteWow! And I thought I had a large family (there will be 24 people at my grandma's on the fourth, although that's not everybody)! Sounds like you'll have to make a step-by-step to-do list to help keep yourself organized, but it also sounds like you've done that already.
ReplyDeleteAs for entertainment for the kids, you could have some toys around, like beach balls or something that they could invent their own games with. Twister is a good game when you're younger if somebody has that to bring along. There's the old standby of bubbles and sidewalk chalk too. Also maybe a badminton/volleyball net set up if there's room? And I like Quiet Warrior's idea of the treasure hunt!
Came back with another idea. It will require an adult with a child's heart to supervise.
ReplyDeleteDo the "Lady Harley Family Picnic Olympics"
the adult in charge makes us some silly events. (Things like the baseball bat relay - mark of a distance of about 20 ft. Divide the distance into fourths with X's [X_________X________X_________X. Divide kiddos into teams. Line the teams up behind one line. Hand the first one in each team a baseball bat. This child has to place the big end of the bat on the ground and place their forehead on the handle. they then spin around it three times. Then they pick up the bat , run to the next X and repeat the spin. After completing the last spin they run back to the start line, hand the bat off and the next one has their turn. First team to have all their members finish is the winner. I promise this one is funny. Even some adults can do this.) There are loads others.
I hope your fourth is fantastic - as for me and our group, we hit the lake and the boats all day with a big potluck meal. Stay all day and up until the fireworks which we watch from the river.
there's the always classic, potatoe sack race, three legged race.... red light green light (good for younger kids) simon says... red rover red rover.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried www.evite.com? It works great and you can make it artsy with a theme and your own avatars. You can use it for everyone with e-mail addresses and it really saves you time because you don't have to call everyone and you can send them all last minute reminders too. If it's hot it would be nice to have some water to cool off, even if just a rotating sprinkler or water shooters for the kids. Croquet is nice to be playing and horseshoes. If it is on the farm, a tractor with a trailer with hay for a hayride. Bonfires, weenie roast and marshmallow roasts are always fun too. Anyway sound like a blast!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOODNESS... I should have asked you all from the start! LOL... I knew you wouldn't let me down...
ReplyDeleteOh... Maegan... sidewalk games won't work for us, though... it's on a farm & we have no sidewalk to draw on. & The small little bit of black top that is there... will be occupied with the tables for the table games! :)
Thanks all... "ask & you shall receive"... KEEP THEM COMING! :)
Hide and seek. My favorite game ever!!! Oh, let me send you a link to the best games ever!!! Trust me!!!! Well I went looking for the site and couldn't find it, but this one has a bunch of games too. You can select a few to keep the kids busy. Other than that, kids will have fun just playing and running. They don't have to be busy the whole time. Enjoy your party!!!!!!!
