Friday 5 ~ Kitchen Gadgets

This week's Friday 5 was my suggestion. (For more entries, click that title.) My idea was if it was chosen I'd show you on video my favorite gadgets. It's really hard to pick 5... but I did.

I'm not feeling up to par... & it kind of shows in my delivery... well, to me it does. But anyway, I was reviewing the video & realized I made a couple blunders... I'll list them below the video.

So, here are is my Top 5 Favorite Kitchen Gadgets...

Well, 1 mistake is the cheese knife, the cheese doesn't "go through the holes" ... the holes are there to help the cheese not stick to the knife!

The other is on the Snackmaster... you don't just put one slice of bread on each side... you place one sandwich on each side... it seals it up & make it a great HOT pocket type snack. ... You can also make omelets in it... & I can't remember what else... I mainly use it for sandwiches & quesadillas. YUMMO!!

Oh, the Kitchen Aid Mixer I think is a MUST have for all bakers / cooks / chefs! It's wonderful... & it makes the lightest cupcakes ever!! And it mixes in the chocolate chips into the cookies likity split!!

When I visited my dad in April, he showed me the attachment he has for his mixer. It's a meat grinder. I know my hubby would really enjoy that. One of these days, I'll get one... maybe not a meat grinder... I'm thinking more like a noodle maker... there are an assortment to choose from!

Well, tomorrow is mine & hubby's 12th anniversary... so, I might just ask for an attachment. (Maybe? Oh, especially if he wins some money at the poker game he is at tonight! Hee Hee!!)

Hope you enjoyed your ride. Have a GREAT weekend!!

Friday Five - STUFF

That's right! Stuff is the subject for this week's FRIDAY 5.

Today I am going to do it in the form of a video blog. Just because I'm having fun with doing video blogs since my new phone (the LG Env2 - Maroon) can do really long videos!

Also, in this video I mention about having to keep it under 10 minutes for YouTube... well, my goal is still to keep my video blogs under 10 minutes... but now I don't have to worry about YouTube anymore... I found a really cool site... (so far I think it's cool) called Jumpcut... it's now a Yahoo thing... only problem is it's "Beta" right now... & remember what happened to the last beta thing they had? (360) So... I'm really hoping that it will catch on & others will rave about it & Yahoo won't discard it like they did 360!!

So, anyway... here's the list for this week's Friday 5... because it's specific STUFF!!!

The Late George Carlin wrote a piece about "Stuff".  Your stuff, my stuff, where we put out stuff, and our attachment to our stuff. For this weeks Friday Five, go around your home and pick out 5 of your "stuff". However this weeks exercise will be very specific on where you get the "stuff".

1. Pick an item from your junk drawer, junk container....where ever you keep your extra "junk" that your not sure when or if you are going to need at some point in the future.

2. Pick a book off  your book shelf...it can be a book, magazine, newspaper...etc...

3. Pick a movie that you have, you've borrowed, down loaded, stole from someone because you liked it so much you keep forgetting to give it back....

4. Pick an article of clothing in your closet or dresser.

5. Pick a food from your fridge or pantry.

List your 5, and tell us why you feel that "stuff" is important to you, what it says about you.

Now for a bonus pick, what is that secret guilty pleasure "stuff" that you didn't want to put on the above list because you thought it might make you look silly or strange or feel stupid for writing it and letting a bunch of folks know about?  Come on...we all have some "stuff" we don't tell everyone about!  Let's have fun!

So, here is my STUFF in a video!
(Please let me know if you like video blogs... I'll do more of them, if you do!!)

Friday Five - Cartoons

It's that time again... Time for Friday Five... Here's our challenge...

Good morning! After the last couple of weeks of memories, what other than toys and those catchy jingles...what was more fun to do?....than watch cartoons?

Growing up mom didn't give us much time in front of the TV, but we did try to get in as much Saturday morning cartoons as we could! So, what were your 5 favorite cartoon characters? And why?  Have fun, and best wishes for a wonderful weekend.

Here's my list this week...

1. I think the 1st one is obvious... TIGGER & the whole Winnie the Pooh gang! Just love that "Tubby little cubby bear all stuffed with fluff"!! & "The most wonderful thing about Tiggers, is I'M THE ONLY ONE!!" (who wouldn't love them songs!!)

2. Pink Panther... uh... guess why! LOL... well, not just because of his color... I loved the music by Henry Mancini!!

3. Sylvester the Cat & Tweety Bird....
"I taut I saw a Puddy Tat... I did, I did!! (One year for Halloween, my mom made me a Tweety Bird costume!!)

4. Popeye... it was a great one to watch... to see him the scrawny guy win against Bluto! "Popeye the Sailor Man. TOOT TOOT!!"

5. Scooby Doo... "Ruh ro"... "Scooby Doo Where are you??" "Scooby Snack!"... He was just so silly!! (& Scrappy Doo, too!!)

Friday Five - Childhood Toys

Here's this week's challenge...

Last week we had a great time remembering all the old commercial jingles, so this week I thought it would be fun to remember 5 of the toys we cherished as a child.  There were some wonderful toys back in the day, let's hear about the one you loved the most!

I was not your typical little girl. I was a bit of a "tom boy". You put me in a room full of dolls & have one little mechanical car or toy among them, & I always went for the mechanical toy!

However, I did have this collection of International Dolls. They were dressed in costumes from their country. Most of them stayed in their box. Last I remember they were in the attic in the farm house. Hmmm... wonder if they are still there?

*note to self, need to ask Mom next time talk with her.*

Now that you know what I was like as a child... some of these toys may make sense now!

Let's see... I remember...
1. The Rubik's Cube (yeah, a teen in the 80's!!)
2. The electronic handheld Merlin (it was like a Simon Says / memory game, (see the picture above)... but I tore it apart to see how it worked. Which I never really figured out! LOL... I can't believe I found a picture of it! It's on eToys.com ... & it's BACK... and has more games on it now. Ahh... but now I've found a picture of the older version... Click on that link above & you'll see what I had!!)
3. Slinky
4. The board game Aggravation
5. I thinking... Those international dolls are the ones that really are what else I'm thinking of... I wish I could remember the brand name on them. I had a collection... & I never did get to finish collecting them. As I said... I wonder if they're still in the attic! :o)

I'll add comments below... if I think of the name... or my mom does!

Hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane, on The Rambling Train.

Friday Five - Commercial Jingles from the Past

The list I did last week about movies... is from the Friday Five group... I joined & now I'll get to do more of these. It's a public group, if you want to join... click on their name that I've linked.

Here is this week's challenge...

Remember when you were a kid and those crafty marketers got all those jingles stuck in your head..."He's a honeycomb kid, givin' all he's got.." "If you believe in Peanut Butter Clap your hands..." Remember those? I noticed that today's commercials for kids and adults alike are all action, no jingles....Poor jingle writers sitting lonely in their Glendale homes obsessing over their great cereal campaigns. So...give us 5 of your favorite jingles that you remember growing up with!

1. Don't squeeze the Charmin.
2. Give it to Mikey, he will eat anything. He likes it... Mikey likes it! (Life Cereal).
3. They'rrrrrrrrrrrrrrre Great! (Kellogg's Frosted Flakes Cereal)
4. Plop, Plop, Fiz, Fiz... oh what a relief it is. (Alka-Seltzer)
5. Good to the last drop! (Maxwell House)

Those are the 1st 5 I could think of... what do you remember???

The Friday Five (movies)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
I can't remember who starts this each week... but I swiped this one from Kanga... I didn't see it until now, that's why it's a day late. LOL

List 5 movies that either:
1. Took your breath away...
2. Left a profound impact on you that you could not shake for a few days or hours...
3. That you have watched so many times that you know the script line by line...
4. That you laughed so hard you thought your stomach would burst...
5. Or one that unexpectedly put a lump in your throat.
****************

1. Premonition is one that unexpectedly put a lump in my throat... & took my breath away... AND it had an impact on me...
2. Twister; WarGames; Back to the Future Trilogy; Top Gun & Days of Thunder are all movies that I've watched so many times.... But not sure if I could say I know every line by heart.
3. Wild Hogs is one that had me laughing extremely hard!!
4. Since I just saw Hancock... I have to say that's another one that has sort of impacted me... Just the last 15 minutes or so had me on the edge of my seat!!
5. The Day after Tomorrow (the one about the "global warming" is the one I'd have to say that's left the biggest impact on me... so far!!

I could go on & on... but that's all I can think of right now... & besides it really only asked for 5!! LOL :)

Friday 5 - Time Travel

I'm going to give Friday 5 a try this week! I like the subject & questions.

Time Travel . . . judging by the number of television series, movies, books created on the subject, each providing it's own twist on the subject, it is a fascination that has captured the imagination of people in all walks of life through the ages.

This week's Friday Five questions pose various scenarios within the theme of "Time Travel" . . . elaborate or not as much as you like.

1. You can go back and change an event in history . . . What would the historical event be, what would you change and what outcome would your actions have? This is tough... My friend Grandma Rosy took the one answer I would even think of... change 9-11-01 events.

My hubby said he'd go back to when Eve ate the forbidden fruit.

I am not sure I'd want to do that... So, I am at a loss for this one. If I think of anything, I'll post it in a comment below.

2. You can go back in time, but you can't change anything . . . where would you go?
This one is a bit easier... I'd like to be at Princess Di & Prince Charles wedding... just seeing the glamour & tradition of it all would just something else! :) No, I wouldn't want to change this, because I think Diana needed to marry Charles so that her life would change & she would be able to do the good that she did.

3. You can visit the future, but you can't change anything . . . where would you go?
I would like to see how my son, Mike, turns out... regular readers of my blog will understand why.

4. Who is the one famous person you would go back in time to visit?
Since I already used Princess Di, I think I'll say something different here... I would like to visit Michael Landon on the set of Little House on the Prairie. Not sure why... I just had always admired Michael Landon (& NO this is not why I named my son Michael.)

5. You can be any person, past or present, famous or not . . . who is it and why?
Oprah... when she is giving away her favorite things. Just to see the reaction on the audience members when they realize they were all getting one of them high tech refrigerators!

If you would like to participate in the Friday 5:

Copy the questions and post your answers to your blog,

Leave a comment on the page at
The Friday Five @ Multiply to let others know your post is up so they can visit your blog...

Fun, easy, and no time limit.
