Practice Makes Perfect

In the absence of our wonderful teacher, Caghs... I am starting this blog for practice for the things she has taught us so far.

Join in when you can... I'll leave this up & I'll leave the Christmas music on. (If you don't want to listen to it... just hit pause... It's on auto play. & Auto Shuffle) :)

So, without further ado, let's get to practicing!

(Music has been removed!) :)

Now I am confused Mama Di... I mean QW... LOL TESTING SUMMAT

    ReplyDelete
  60. ok, all, I am going to copy & paste her reply here... I warn you it's a little long...

    ReplyDelete
  61. We're missing summat for sure. but hopefully we can figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  62. t depends on the tag you are using (yes, I do know what you mean ;)

DIV is the most flexible tag, because you can use pretty much any combination (borders, fonts, padding, spacing, alignment, etc)

    For example, try this:

    Your text here

You can use pretty much anything in a DIV tag as long as you don't have conflicting values (ie specifying two different font colours, etc).

You'll notice in the example above that I have specified several different border colours. The important things when doing this is to specify them individually, ie: border-top-color. You can also specify border styles the same way, ie: border-style-top. The standard border-color or border-style will set the default for any that isn't specifically specified.

You'll also notice that I give several font faces, seperated by a comma. This is called a hierarchy, and provides a backup font should the first font be unavailable ... and should the second be unavailable, the third is used, and so on in that fashion. You can specify any number of fonts in this way (not everyone has the same fonts installed on their computer), but two or three is usually plenty if you are using common fonts.

    ReplyDelete
  63. yikes, let me get the code from her example...

    ReplyDelete
  64. (DIV STYLE="padding: 6px; border-style: solid; border-width: 6px; border-color: orange; border-top-color: purple; border-bottom-color: blue; font-family: comic sans ms, courier new, tahoma; font-size: 32px; color: green; text-align: right; background-color: pink; text-decoration: underline; font-variant: small-caps;")Your text here(/DIV)

This is the code that generated that box below

    ReplyDelete
  65. its all too tricky for me to get my head around it thats for sure

    ReplyDelete
  66. yes i was wondering if it was with the DIV tag

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cazz do me a favor and post the code you used, please?

    ReplyDelete
  68. the one that lady used above but changing the bracet thingies

    ReplyDelete
  69. (DIV STYLE="padding: 6px; border-style: solid; border-width: 6px; border-color: orange; border-top-color: purple; border-bottom-color: blue; font-family: comic sans ms, courier new, tahoma; font-size: 32px; color: green; text-align: right; background-color: pink; text-decoration: underline; font-variant: small-caps;")Your text here(/DIV)

    ReplyDelete
  70. YIKES! Here's the 1st part of her message... I'm silly! LOL :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. (FONT STYLE="border-width: 4px; border-style: outset; border-color: red; padding: 12px;" font-color: "green")

    You are so CLOSE!!!

You'll notice that I've changed some of the text to red. That section should look like this:

padding: 12px; color: green" (In style sheets, font colour is specified just by stating 'color' - I made an error early in the lesson regarding this, and this is probably where you picked it up)

... as there are no quotation marks inside the style section itself, only at the start and end:

    STYLE="color: green"

Keep working on it - you're doing great!

    ReplyDelete
  72. padding: 12px;" font-color: "green" ... is what she turned red in my message

    ReplyDelete
  73. this is what i used before but it wasnt working around the paragraph like u wanted

    ReplyDelete
  74. hehe me too, all these codes do my head in

    ReplyDelete
  75. here's something else she said...

Au Contraire my dear :) To use the example quoted previously, only with a font size of 24px instead, you'll notice that this will work for a large chunk of text as easily as it will work for a few words. The secret is to make sure that you only use the quotation marks at the start and end of the STYLE section (STYLE="code: here;") or it will break up your code, thus making it do strange things ;) Remember: HTML needs "", STYLE does not :)
