Adventures in California... Day 3...

Hello again from SUNNY California! This picture was from last night a top of Black Hill Mountain. Which is just across from where my dad lives. The big huge rock near the middle is Morro Bay Rock.

Today we got up & went to a restaurant called "Margie's" in San Luis Obispo for Dad's birthday breakfast... Dad & Joyce warned me ahead of time that they give huge portions... I'll tell you what... That's an UNDERSTATEMENT! LOL...

Dad & Joyce split an omelet & potatoes... & I got French Toast & taters (which are little red ones diced... well, no... diced is not the right word... they were more quartered & grilled to perfection!) Dad took once slice of my French Toast... & I ended up bring home some of the potatoes. Everything was fantastic!!!

After having full bellies, Dad had to make a quick stop at Home Depot... then onto Traders Joe's... They have some great deals there! I ended up getting a little toy for Sunny & bag of "Cuties"... (they are little bit sweet oranges... called clementines.)

They are from the company that my hubby came out here for a few months ago... to install a machine for. When he came home he had 5 bags of these cute little things... (I guess that's why they call them Cuties! LOL)... & I took one bite & well, I think I may have a new favorite fruit! (used to be watermelon.)

Anyway, by the time we got back to Dad's ... I was ready for a nap... I am not sure if it's allergies or what, but the ol' sinuses were pounding.

So, Dad let me sleep & then he took Joyce to work. When I woke he was watching "The Masters"... I watched the last little bit of it with him. It was neat to watch them put "the green jacket" on the winner.

Then Dad made some WONDERFUL Beef Stroganoff... scrumptious, as always!

Then I watched Ashley Force almost win her 1st NHRA Funny Car race... she was just edged out. Hubby & I haven't been watching it this year & I didn't realize Ashley is a force to be reckon with! (Sorry... bad pun! LOL). Anyway, with her win in the Semi-Finals she topped the points lead... 1st women to do so in the history of NHRA... (maybe just for Funny Car class.)

Dad (& I) says thanks to all who have left messages so far to wish him "Happy Birthday".

Also while Dad was on his computer he had received an email with a sample of the new $5 bill! Ha! Ha!....

New 5 dollar bill

Isn't that the truth?!??

Now we (he) is watching the old movie "The Color of Money"... yep, the one staring Paul Newman & Tom Cruise! It's on ESPN Classics...

I feel old, because it's from 1986 & they are calling it a classic already! LOL...

I am not sure what's on tap for tomorrow, besides the fact we're going to McClintocks in Pismo Beach as a treat for my "belated" birthday dinner! :) I am looking forward to it!

With Joyce having to go to work bright & early in the morning... I think Dad & I will have a relaxing day! :)

Well, being the fact it's after 10:00p.m. (1:00a EDT) I am ready for bed! I pray you all having a great weekend! & Talk to you tomorrow sometime! :)

P.S. What's with all the butterflies? Well Joyce loves butterflies & so, I am doing it for her!

It's another SUNNY & BEAUTIFUL day here in California... (& it's someones birthday...)

Today is my Dad's 70th Birthday... I know I don't have to ask... but I will anyway (LOL) please pass along your birthday wishes as a comment to this blog... & later on I'll have him pull it up on his computer to view it.

Anyway...

... our plans for today are to go out to eat for breakfast... & tonight Dad is going to make his signature Beef Stroganoff.

Not sure what else we're going to do... Don't worry, I'll let you know! LOL... In the mean time...

You'll be amazed...

I promised my dad I'd blog this (he emailed it to me!) ... Plus I added one of my own... #17! (I just couldn't resist!)

IMHO... These are not just GREAT tips... THEY ARE FANTASTIC.

GREAT TIPS:

In case you haven't received these before, these are really excellent tips.
PLEASE BE SURE YOU READ THE LAST ONE ABOUT THE CLOTHES DRYER!!!!!!

1. Reheat Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

2. Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all  broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up  mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg.  Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

3. Expanding Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with  your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake / cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

4. Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

6. Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

7. No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

8. Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with  cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the  squirrels won't come near it.

10. Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a  clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when  wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -- ta da! -- static  is gone.

11. Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot  water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

12. Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the  glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works  better than a cloth!

13. Reopening envelope
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

14. Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

15. Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies , take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

16. Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home', can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about  pets or small  children being harmed!

17. Coffee Cans...
When your next plastic coffee can is empty take the label off (if desired) & put it in the fridge. Next time you have a banana or onion peel, or something else stinky put it in the can & close the lid. Then your next trash day, dump the stinky garbage out. If you go through a lot of coffee containers, then throw out the container & stinky food. (If not, just be sure to rinse the container out after throwing away the odor ridden food.) The lid on the container is air tight & keeps your fridge (& the contents, like butter), garbage can, & house from getting stinky.

18. INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things  around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and  he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean.  (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He took the filter over to the sink, ran hot water over it. The lin t filt er is made of a mesh material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. WELL...the hot water jus t sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free - that nice fr agrance too, you know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire & potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (& to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with  hot soapy water & an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six  months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!
How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!

Note: I went to my dryer & tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water & a nylon brush & I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn't any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!

Please feel free to link to this blog to share with others... not only could it save someone's home, but it could save ssomeone's life!!

STOP THE PRESSES!!! (10-26-07)

For those looking for an EASY way to back up their 360 blogs WITHOUT the hassle of copy & pasting... here is an import tool I stumbled across on MULTIPLY!!!

(http://YOURSITENAME.multiply.com/journal/import/yahoo360) <-- This is NOT a link... because, you need to CHANGE it to take out "YOURSITENAME" & replace it with... (the obvious) your name of your site address at Multiply.

You can find that in the address bar, when you click on "my site" when you're looking at anything to do with Multiply (as long as your signed up AND signed in.) (Tip, it has an icon of a house.)

For example: My site is ladyharley.multiply.com ... ladyharley is the name I chose for the site address... HOWEVER, I have named my site....

"The Avant-Garde"... I chose this, because 1 - I looked up the word "creatitive" in a thesarus & "avant-garde" was one of the synomons... & 2 - It fit with the "newspaper" theme I chose.

SO, with this said! I will NOT be changing the theme like I do here. I may "tweak" it a little... but I LOVE it the way it is now!

As for 360... I AM NOT LEAVING... technically... I think I'll be doing my blogs at Multiply, because I seem to keep loosing blogs here.

I'll keep the fun stuff here... & things I know won't matter if lost.

Once the transistion is complete, I'll make the final decision of where I will stay. (I have a feeling I may migrate to Mulitply... because it has the same feel & ease of use as 360 does!)

What does this mean for you, my regular reader... well, just means you should bookmark my Mulitply site... & consider setting up one for yourself, IF, you want to comment on my blogs or leave me a guest book message. (It's more like MySpace & Mash comments. Meaning you can use html in the message to post graphics.)

Instead of posting pictures in a photostream like I have on my top page here... I'll have a link to my flickr site where I've just upgraded to a PAID Pro account... which gives me an UNLIMITED storage of pictures!! (THANK YOU DAD for the EARLY Christmas gift!!)

As I get acclimated with Multiply, I am thinking of doing a "plus & minus" blog about it...

I'll give you a sneak preview... the smileys have something left to be desired. Not near as many or cute as here!! HOWEVER, if you're clever enough you could possibly use some from 360, but copy & pasting the html code... MAYBE... I have yet to try this!! Though it seems more trouble than it's worth. We'll see!

Ok, I'm done for now... I am extremely tired. And I have a lot to do before hubby gets home from work! Not sure if I'll get anything accomplished... because of my shear exhaustion state.

Oh, more more thing...

My thyroid is down to a NORMAL level!!! So, now I am thinking my exhaustion & other problems are mainly from my ACM.
Looking at the symptoms... It just makes sense... Now if I can only get it through hubby & other's head!!!
