Fall TV reviews (part 1)

Fall TV is in full swing...
Hubby & I just finished watching the new ABC series "FlashForward" (Thursday) & tell ya what... it's going to be another one just like LOST... one you're going to be hooked on! I know I am already!

Tuesday was the return the great show NCIS & the premiere of the spin off NCIS: Los Angeles (on CBS)... Just like their predecessor, JAG... it's well worth 2 hours of viewing!

My DVR will be working overtime on Tuesday's because there are 2 other new shows that I watched last night... "The Good Wife" (CBS) with Julianne Margulies & "the forgotten" (ABC).

"The Good Wife" is actually another lawyer / investigation type of show... & is a lot better than I thought it was going to be. (Love it when things turn out like that.)

I was concerned "the forgotten" (yes, no capitalization is how it's to be) would be another series that Christian Slater's name may have over emphasized the goodness of it... however, yet again I was surprised! ;o)

(btw... I'm not really giving a synopsis on these shows, because I figure you have seen the previews or can look it up. Just giving my opinion about them. ... Also, I'm a bit tired, so my wording may not be "up to par".)

Moving on to Wednesday nights... Well, a new show with Kelsey Grammar ("Hank" on ABC) does not start until this coming week... Looks good. Truly hope that it's better than the one that CBS had him in last year. (Where he was a news anchor. It was ok... but the writing really needed some help.)

We still have to watch "Gary Unmarried" (Starring Jay Mohr)... so, can't give you a review... However, the show seemed to get better as it neared the end of it's 1st season... and from the previews, looks like Mohr may have a hit.

Now we're to Thursday nights... another night the DVR will have a work out. Along with the previous mentioned, "FlashForward" was also the return of "Grey's Anatomy"... knowing that one of my favorite hospital series ("ER") was ending... I started to get hooked into "Grey's" & as a commercial said about the season finale being unforgettable... well, so was the season premiere! Not only is it funny where it needs to be... but it's also drama packed, with tear-jerking scenes.

I'm actually looking forward to it's spin-off, "Private Practice", season premiere, next Thursday... they left us with a great cliff hanger. Not sure though I'll keep up with that show... We'll see if they turn things around this year.

My poor DVR... Friday's are going to be another busy night... CBS saved the show "Medium" from NBC's axe & put it in the line up between their big hits: "Ghost Whisperer" (with Jennifer Love Hewitt) & "NUMB3RS"...

Saturday's & Sunday's are reserved mainly for football & NASCAR. *giggles* (Nope, I don't watch "Desparate Housewives".) So, I'm sure those days will be reserved to watch some of the shows we have on the DVR. (Oh... "The Bill Engvall Show" on TBS is usually on Saturday's now... but the next 2 weeks doesn't seem to be any new shows. They had their season start over a month ago. Must be because it's cable. Just a guess.) ;o)

I say this is part 1... because of all the stuff we still have to watch... Though, I can pretty much say this... it's all good tv viewing! ;o)

Now the question to you is, what are some of your favorites that have returned & what new shows are you watching???

(Of course there are shows like "Dancing with the Stars" that I didn't mention... but that's because... well, just because. LOL)

What do you think of the new button for Notes??

(Dad, you can ignore this!!!!)
Sorry, title is not that creative. But my mind is a little off.

Anyway... I'm blogging about one of the new features of the Enhanced 4.0... something that I think that could be better... & I'm going to include screen shots... please let me know what you all think...

Before I send it off to MUDs... I'd like to know if I'm going about it wrong & that's why I can't get it to do what I want... or if it's something that you all are finding is a little extra work...

What I'm talking about is the new button for NOTES in the "Post Content" box. (I love the fact we have a button... HOWEVER... there's a flaw, in my opinion...)

You click on the button & you get this...

You start to type & you get this...

Then you hit post & you get directed to here... & as long as you have your "show unread replies only" NOT checked, it should appear there at the top...

What if you want to add more info... then you have to CLICK the message to get to add into the reply! See in this one...
Again... I know... I know... these "quick notes" are to be like a BLAST message or a "What are you doing now" type of note... but still... if you wanted to add more... you have to click on it... OR create a blog / review!!
What do YOU think????

Oh... while doing screen shots... I want to point out a good thing... Multiply brought back 2 things... the # of comments line above the reply box & the drop down box to choose which order you want to view them in! WOO HOO!! (See this image below!)
For those who use multiple images within their blog... like I have here... Have you ever noticed... when you use the Insert Images button, the image always goes to the top of the blog & you have to cut it & paste it... IF you want it after some text? (Like I did in this blog.) ... Does anyone else see that to be a pain??

One more thing...

This above image... I am showing the lines I wish we had the option to adjust... like you would in any spreadsheet!!

AND I'd like to see when a message is sent to multiple users ... that the limit shown in the preview be only just a few... so that the message isn't so stinking tall!!!

P.S. Sorry the images are blurry... for some reason when I use take from my computer, or my Multiply album... it shrinks the images. But when you use a image link from the web... it puts it in as it's original size. Why is that??????

Liking the new Multiply Inbox more & more each day...

Rating:★★★★
Category:Other
Yep, I'm getting there... I'm actually finding it to be more helpful in catching up with my friends.

Now, I am NOT saying I'm going to be visiting everyone's blog / notes / & other misc posts... but I do have to say the Friends & Family section in the left side bar has been a lot easier to see when a "favorite F&F" has something new posted!!

SOOOO much easier to follow!!!

Still wish though they'd give us a way to minimize the width of the main part of the inbox... BUT I am getting used to not having the right side bar!

One other draw back... we need some type of a "hot button" to be able to post a note... Anyone found a quicker way than going to your home page & clicking the "add note"?? & besides typing it in the URL address bar??

See, I use the Toolbar to be able to quickly post something... & the "Quick Notes" still need to be added to it. Maybe when thing are a little more stable with $hiba I'll go bug the MUDs group again!! :)

(Side note / question... when you want to give the possessive form of everyone... isn't it "everyone's"?? Or is there are more proper word it instead???)

1st thoughts on the new Multiply 4.0

Rating:★★★
Category:Other
Yep... I got the update today... I was looking forward to it, sort of! & Tell ya what... It's not all that it's cracked up to be... I can see why a lot are complaining.

The stuff that was on the right side bar is not anywhere I can find at the moment. IE: The Staff Blog & important updates.

Calendar upcoming dates are not easily seen either. You can set it up so that you can see you calendar, but you see the whole month.

The tool bar I use shows when there is a new pm or post by a contact & I would click on that icon & it would show me only those new messages. NOW, it takes you to ALL your PM's (& etc.) & the new ones are mixed in with stuff read already.

Since I've gone through my messages, I can't show you an example just yet. I will later on.

I do know that Kitty was taking screen shots of the before & after... so, I may just wait & link to her blog.

Well, I am getting groggy... even after sleeping so much since I got home from Grammy-sitting... & it's only 1a ;o)

Maybe my internal clock is trying to reset! Ha! I'll believe it when it happens! :)

btw... I only give this a 3 of 5 because I'm still trying to figure things out. I have a feeling I'll have to get used to it... & that they'll not bring back the old way.

Oh, & if you used your Media Locker a lot... it's very similar to that! (I didn't use it often because... well, I just didn't like it.)

Ok. That's all for now. Toodles! :)

And In The End... (updated)

And In The End...

Sound familiar? If you were watching ER tonight, it should! That is the title of the SERIES Finale! Yes, after 15 years, ER has come to an end.

This whole season has been spiced up with bringing back all the favorites from the past... & letting us know where they are now. (If not deceased.)

I can't give you a synopsis or even a review on tonight's show just yet... because I haven't watched it yet. I have it paused on my DVR ready to roll. I was just trying to finish up here & settle back to watch it, when I saw the article on Yahoo... & thought I'd share this with you while it was on my mind.

Since it's a 2 hour show, I won't be back tonight to give my thoughts on it... Look for an updated version of this in the next day or so.

Until then... TOODLES & HUGS!!

(Blog image from: Google.)

**********
UPDATE:
After watching the show, I was pleased how they wrapped up each of the story lines. However, they did open some more... maybe to leave it available to bring back, even just for a reunion show.

They even brought a 2nd generation doctor into the ER... but she had just started med school. Had they really wanted to keep the show going, they could have pulled it off with Dr. Greene's daughter and her progress.

It's sad to see the show end. But I think it's had it's time in the spotlight.

Now we'll see how it's successor ("Southland") will do. The previews do look good.

If you didn't get to see the Series Finale of "ER", I believe you can find it at NBC.com.

Have a GREAT weekend! :)

Vantage Point (PG-13)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Action & Adventure
To do a film from just one perspective is challenging enough... To pull off about 7 different "Vantage Point"(s) makes for a top notch film!

This is another one of them where the Special Features on the DVD is just as intriguing.

The all star cast is given a challenge to tell a story in more than one view. They not only pulled it off, but they did it with great finesse!

Without giving any of the surprises, I do say things are not as always what they seem... & that's what makes this an intense, dynamic, thrilling movie!!

I had been wanting to see this since I saw the 1st review. Being this is the last night of the year, I feel we saved the best for the last in 2008!!

If you have not seen it yet... I think you get the idea... Let me just say FIVE stars is not enough for this flick!!

Quick ride...

It's after Midnight & I just realized I hadn't blogged yet about about a new gadget I received today.

Oh, before I do that... I want to update you on $hiba... after a little research, I found out that the keyboard I bought IS compatible with my particular model. So, I reinstalled it & made sure the cable was completely seated & again.... VIOLA!!! It works! I, now have a completely new keyboard with all keys functioning! So, I did not waste $25 after all!! :) Now all I have to do is sell the old one to make a little bit of the money back!! (Along with many other things in my house that has been stacking up waiting for me to put on eBay!)

Anyhoo, arriving today about 1:00p was my brand new LG Chocolate - Black Cherry! I couldn't pass it up... I got it for FREE!!! :) So, I guess you know now why I hadn't blogged until now! LOL

I had liked the idea about the Chocolate ever since I saw one in the Verizon store back in 2006. I thought, what a cool name for a phone! (Side note: this was the day AFTER I got out of the hospital after loosing 10 years of my memory... Walking into that retail store was a bit of a tech shock for me!!) Giving my love for chocolate... I thought, maybe I'll get that some day! LOL... However, I am glad I waited... because the version I have is the new updated version... with a few better features.

I'll post a review after I've had some time to play with it & get used to it... There are a couple minor things I am not liking... but I may just not be doing things right. So we'll see.

Speaking of reviews... if you haven't seen it yet... I posted one about the movie "Michael Clayton" starring George Clooney. (That link should open in a new window / tab.)

Well, I have to pull this train into the station already because I have to go to the farm in the morning to discuss the party plans with my mom. So, I best get some sleep!!!

Michael Clayton - starring George Clooney

Rating:★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Drama
I was very disappointed in this picture. I expected more from an Oscar nominated flick. To start with it was full of foul language, including many "f bombs", that I so despise. It was not as if they guided you into the use of the profanity... it started from almost the beginning. Also, the use of certain sexual expletives could have been withheld & would have made for a much better movie.

If it was not for George Clooney's acting AND the ending, I would have given this only 1 star. Clooney did a phenomenal job for what he was given. However, I really think anything he does is for the most part, great! His drama rolls are his best... however, I have yet to see "Leather Heads" (you know that film about the beginning of football!) :)

I do have to say that this movie started off in a way I tend to enjoy... starts at the end of the story... then back tracks & tells you how they arrived at the particular ending.

Furthermore, the music score for the next to last scene was breath taking & so fitting for it. It did capture me into the moment.

Oh, if you decide to watch this (or have already)... will you please let me know what the meaning behind the reason why Michael Clayton stopped on the hill & went to the horses standing there. I thought it was from something the character Marty had said to him about "having the horses to do something about it"...

My hubby & I even went to the director's commentary to hear why, but they never really did.

Speaking of the commentary... it was amusing... at one point there talking about the film & said something like "if they're watching for the 1st time with commentary, then they deserve to have the ending ruined." Something like that. (Since I've already returned the dvd to the rental store, I can't go back & find out the exact quote.)

Anyway, I honestly am glad I did not go to the theater to see it, or even bought the DVD for my own collection.

Feel free to debate me on my humble opinion... however, I will not recommend without the warning about the foul language in it.

By the way... this film was not based on a true story, as many (including myself) thought.

For more information, including a plot summary, check out Wikipedia's take on the movie. (Be sure to read the "critical reception" paragraph... in case you didn't know, it received high marks from many professional critics, including Roeper & Ebert!)

The remake of a classic TV Show - Knight Rider

Rating:★★★★
Category:Other
Ok, some may not consider it a classic... but it's one of my favorites from, my childhood.

Well, tonight is the premiere of the remake of Knight Rider... & because KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) is a Ford Cobra Shelby, hubby is sitting here watching it with me. (One of his favorite cars!!)

I will update this with more later on. I just wanted to get this started as a reminder to me to post a review.

Oh, why 4 stars & not 5? Well, the 1st 13 minutes they've shown some very suggestive scenes. I won't get into it, because I don't want to offend anyone. Let's just say, it's definitely the 21st century tv!

IT JUST TRANSFORMED INTO A DIFFERENT CAR!!!! That was cool!

Ok, more later... I have to watch! :)

Hubby has installed it on the desktop & I am thinking of installing it on the laptop... to hopefully speed it up!

I would like to know the positives AND negatives! To help me decide!

Barrett-Jackson Auction - Speed TV

Rating:★★★★
Category:Other
Every year at this time Speed TV dedicates a major block of it's viewing time to The Barrett-Jackson Auction.

The auction block is under an 8 acres tent in Scottsdale, Az

Offered to the television audience, to keep you glued to the 39 hours total (Tuesday through Sunday) live broadcast (10 hours today & tomorrow & 4 hours on Sunday) is the opportunity join in on the fun of bidding with a fantasy game.

There are prizes for the Hagerty Fantasy Bid winners. They have winners for the 1st successful guess. Top daily winners receive a prize and prizes for over all. (Click that link above for more info!)

My hubby & I have been watching since Wednesday (we missed the start on Tuesday) & bidding on each of the Hagerty Fantasy Bid cars.

I am only bidding for fun, to try to get my name (Lady Harley) up on the screen. So my guesses are just that... a guess!!

However, Hubby's bids are more educated. He knows cars! Plus he will research for a short time on the web before entering his guess to what the hammer price will be.

The coverage is not just about the auction... they do their best to teach you about each car.

One of the stage announcers, Mike Joy, says he's "just an enthusiast, I'm no expert". Yet he will give you details about a car that not everyone would even think about. (Yes, NASCAR fans, this is the same Mike Joy that broadcasts some of the races!!) Mike & his co-announcers will point out the positive AND negatives of a vehicle so that any internet or phone bidders can see the detail.

Bidders attending in person have the ability to inspect it themselves.

This is a great show not just for car guys & gals... but also anyone who wants to see something out of the ordinary.

For example... earlier today across the block went one of the Beverly Hillbillies Jalopy. (It was also a Hagerty Fantasy Bid). It went for $125,000. Another rare find was a recreation of the Adam West Batmobile... $185,000 was the winning bid. There were even fans dressed in Batman costumes.

Everything that is auctioned is at NO RESERVE... meaning the highest bidder gets it no matter what!

My 4 out or 5 stars is a combination of the show along with the fantasy bid game. Because they need to make some adjustments to the internet part. I don't know if it's from the increase of bidders as the night goes on or if it's something else... because it take a little bit to get it to refresh when it's time to bid.

Also, they only post the totals of the top 20 bidders, so you do not know where you stand if you are not in the top 20. I feel there should be a way to see your personal total.

How the game works: Anyone one with the closest bid, without going over gets 100 points. If exact & fastest to enter bid, they receive an extra 21 points. Then they have a scale for up to 50% of the bid. So if a car went for $100,000 & you're bid was $50,000 you would still receive points.

You can bid either from the internet or text message. Knowing that my old laptop is slow, I grab my cell phone & send a text soon as they say "open for bids".

Another benefit of being live at the auction is you could "rub elbows" with celebrities!

Among the "stars" to attend is Tony Stewart... & he is auctioned one of his 2007 Monte Carlo NASCAR #20 race car! All monies raised will go to The Darrell Gwynn Foundation. (Tony bought the car from Joe Gibbs Racing just to bring it to the auction to raise money for The Darrell Gwynn Foundation. WAY TO GO TONY!!!)

This foundation was established to help try to find a cure for paralysis. They also seek out children in need of motorized wheel chairs & donates it to them. Each chair costs about $10,000. Darrell Gwynn himself was in attendance also.

Tonight they raised OVER $400,000. That's 40 chairs to be donated!!! HURRAY!!!

Other celebrities I've seen tonight John Schneider, Reggie Jackson, Arie Lyendeck & Muhammad Ali... Yes, the legend - Ali!! Oh, there have been others... you'll have to watch to see who you can pick out!

Now the crazzzy bidding is in full swing! It's PRIME-TIME!!

At the B.J. Auction has something for all ages this year... Going up for auction tomorrow during PRIME-TIME is the ONE & ONLY... ROBOSAURUS!! Yep, that car crushing mammoth (40 feet tall) robot! "The opportunity to make a purchase of a lifetime!" is how it is described in the auction brochure!

That's the main reason I am posting this review... to encourage you to tune in AT LEAST to tomorrow's coverage to see Robosaurus break someone's bank! (And maybe even a record.) Speaking of... each year the previous year's record is usually crushed!

Last year it was a Blue Carroll Shelby's Super Snake Cobra that once belonged to Bill Cosby. It was 1 of 2. The winner was the auction regular Ron Pratte, (who also bought Tony Stewart's race car earlier tonight). Winning bid for the Shelby... hold on to your hats...

5 MILLION DOLLARS!! Oh yes, I did say MILLION!!!

So, with that said... what do you think Robosaurus will go for? If money were no object, what would YOU pay for it? Keep in mind it could make money for you if you were to take it to races and / or fairs (or what ever!).

This program is well worth turning to tomorrow... There will be MANY cars that will go for over $1 million! From what they've previewed, it is going to be an electrifying record crushing night!!!!

Please click on each of the links to find out more!! Thank you!

Twister Sisters on WE Tv

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
If you're into the storm chasing "reality" shows, this is a good one.

I'm currently watching the 6th installment (season finale).

The Twister Sisters are actually friends, not sisters... Peggy & Melanie. It's enjoying to watch because they are so knowledgeable about weather AND they are friendly with their guests. An added bonus is to see how Melanie gets excited when they "capture" a tornado.

It's fun to watch the guests reaction when they realize they might see a tornado. One show they had a singer / song writer who was looking for inspiration. (Sorry, I don't remember his name... I thought I had that episode saved... but I guess not.)

He did create a touching love song... A Love Song to a Tornado. (Not sure if that's the exact title.) It was really good!! He dedicated it to the Twister Sisters AND to the residents of Greensburg, KS where the EF5 tornado hit May 4, 2007. (The route to another storm took them through Greensburg just 3 days after it had hit... & it just so happened to be the week this song writer was with them.)

Anyway, this is not a show for the faint at heart, because they do show the devastation that occurs... & which can be heartbreaking. Especially seeing a town practically wiped off the map. {The link is to aerial pictures of Greensburg.}

I know I said it was the season finale tonight... However, you know how the "cable" channels... they'll repeat them all. So, try to catch one (or more) if you can! :)

Hey you can't go wrong with someone who has talent to capture photos like the one above! :)

REVIEW - "Duel" the new TV game show

Rating:
Category:Other
Again, this is not a "blast" but rather a review.

Monday I had DVR'd the new game show Duel on ABC... The previews made it look very interesting.

It was not interesting to say the least! I give this only 1 star for several reasons...

1. It took them over 6 minutes to get the 1st actual "Duel" started.

2. Waisted way too much in between the questions. (This is the same reason Hubby & I won't watch "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader.")

3. Too many commercials (even though I could skip them... it's still a pain!) I feel for their very 1st show, they should have acquired a sponsor to offer limited or no commercial interruption.

I also had Tuesday's show taped, but I ended up deleting it after watching the 1st Duel from Monday.

So, as you've probably guessed... I recommend NOT waisting your time watching or recording.

Now with that said, watch, it will be the next biggest game show. If it were to speed up & limit the commercial breaks... then I may consider watching again.

Speaking of commercial breaks... THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY COMMERCIALS on almost any program you watch. But I won't get started on that! LOL :o)
