IKE .... & tomorrow is September 11... a day not to forget!!

I believe I am going to go "silent" tomorrow. Except for answering a few messages... I think I will take the time tomorrow to reflect.

If I post anything tomorrow... it will be tribute blogs like I did last year. Just as a reminder.

I'll try to find the ones from last year & link them in this blog... but later on.

P.S. Also... HURRICANE IKE is getting stronger... and it's heading more north than they thought yesterday!! Please... Please... if you're on the coast... keep any eye on this storm!! English Made Simple

I wish I could take credit for this... but I can't, my hubby received this from his Aunt M. Some of these are crazzzy... & others make you think!!

If you ever feel stupid, then just read on. If you've learned to speak fluent English, you must be a genius! This little treatise on the lovely language we share is only for the brave. Peruse at your leisure, English lovers.
 
A few examples that demonstrate why the English language is so hard to master:

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

2) The farm was used to produce produce.

3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4) We must polish the Polish furniture.

5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum

9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow. ???

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail

18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.

19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests

21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England nor French Fries in France (Surprise!).  Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.  

Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write
but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth?
One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? Doesn't it seem crazy that
you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds
and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? Is it
an odd, or an end?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? In what language do people
recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo
by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man
and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of
a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which
you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which, an alarm goes off by
going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the
creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all.
That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the
lights are out, they are invisible.

This is one of them emails that make you go hmmm... My dad sent it to me... & since I can reach more of you via my blog... I thought I'd post it here.

(Can you see the pictures? Because this is the first time I'm trying to copy & paste into a blog from email that has pictures. I know I could not have done this on 360!!)

IT  IS  STRANGE  ISN'T  IT....

Isn't it strange how a 20 dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to church ,  but such a small amount when you go shopping?

 

Isn't it strange how 2 hours seem so long when you're at church, and how short they seem when you're watching a good movie?

Isn't it strange that you can't find a word to say when you're praying but...  you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend?

Isn't it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bible but  how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel or ZANE GREY book?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games but  they do whatever is possible to sit at the last row in Church?

Isn't it strange how we need to know about an event for Church 2-3 weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda,  but we can adjust it for other events in the last minute?

 

Isn't it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share it with others; but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?

 

Isn't it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say but . we question the words in the Bible?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven but...  they don't want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?

 

Isn't it strange how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away but  when we are going to send messages about God,  we think about it twice before we share it with others?

 

IT'S STRANGE ISN'T IT? Now that you've read this message, will you  forward it to anybody that you consider a friend, family member or foe (enemy).

 

If you choose not to share His message you may deprive yourself from being blessed as well as depriving others..  who may need God in their life.

Hmmm... I'm sitting here watching THE WEATHER CHANNEL showing the results of the "New Year" snow storm...

I wonder, why is it that no one has thought of a way to take the snow from the sidewalks, streets, and / or yards & transport it to the drought stricken areas??

I mean, there are transport semi's for everything else... why not snow? Yeah, sure it may melt before it reaches the south (or ???) but it's still water!

And it can easily be put into the lakes that so desperately need it!
