2 more not far behind... at least!

Looking at the Atlantic you can see we are heading into PEAK hurricane season.

Gustav is almost upon Louisiana. My heart, thoughts & prayers go out to all in harms way! I sure hope no more lives will be lost! (I heard last night Cuba was reporting over 80 fatalities.)

Anyway, I promised you an update.... so... here it is.... THANKFULLY Gustav is not the record breaking storm I thought... The pressure is up to 954mb... which means it's weakened... Hopefully that will be the trend!

What is scary though, they're predicting a high, as in 15', surge. I pray the levies will hold!

HURRICANE WARNING: Gustav (& Hanna)

Gustav may be a record breaker... I have been watching the pressure in this thing drop & drop... & with each new report it seems to be more grave.

As of 5:00p.m. EDT Gustav is at 941mb. (If you'll recall in the record breaking year 2005, Wilma had the lowest pressure ever recorded @ 882mb.) The millibar pressure is interesting to watch because it shows you how fast a storm is intensifying. Gustav is now over Cuba right now.

If you have the ability to watch The Weather Channel, I highly suggest it. They are very informative... not to mention they have a few good looking meteorologists! (Had to lighten the mood a little! LOL)

New Orleans is already under a mandatory evacuation. They are not going to make the same mistake as they did with Katrina! HOWEVER... Gustav can end up anywhere from Gulf coast of Texas to panhandle of Florida. So, please be on guard!!

The picture above is from the NOAA website. The link will take you to a whole laundry list of link of satellites... the best one to click on is the Gustav Visible LOOP (I believe it needs Java... if you can't run Java, then just click "image")... however, if you're viewing it later... the visible does go black at night. Then you can click on the Infrared link... but it's not as impressive to me as it is to see the clouds view... to me!

More updates later!
P.S. Don't take your eyes off Hanna, either!!!

It doesn't take much to make you happy. You live for simple, happy moments.

You are very content. You don't try to make life overly complicated.

You remain thankful for whatever you have. Even if it isn't much, you make the best of things.

Fay has arrived

We are FINALLY getting some much need rain here in Mid Ohio... thanks to the remnants of TS Fay. Thankfully though we are not getting the downpours & rough weather like some parts are. (My hearts, thoughts, & prayers go out to you folks who are!!)

With Fay almost a memory, all eyes now turn to the next storm... GUSTAV... please, if you're on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico... please stay tuned to the reports. There is no telling yet which way he's going to turn... yet!

Well, tonight hubby & I are going to the movies. He wants to see The Dark Knight in the theaters. So, maybe I'll have a review for you in a few days. (Hmm... I never did the review of Hancock, did I? I will have to keep that in mind!)

That's it for now!
P.S. Sorry again for being so quiet last week... I sure hope I didn't worry anyone... besides my dad! (He called me Friday, making sure I was ok, because it had been since the Friday before since I last blogged here on The Rambling Train! He doesn't see the R.E.D. ... sorry to worry you Dad!)

Friday Five - STUFF

That's right! Stuff is the subject for this week's FRIDAY 5.

Today I am going to do it in the form of a video blog. Just because I'm having fun with doing video blogs since my new phone (the LG Env2 - Maroon) can do really long videos!

Also, in this video I mention about having to keep it under 10 minutes for YouTube... well, my goal is still to keep my video blogs under 10 minutes... but now I don't have to worry about YouTube anymore... I found a really cool site... (so far I think it's cool) called Jumpcut... it's now a Yahoo thing... only problem is it's "Beta" right now... & remember what happened to the last beta thing they had? (360) So... I'm really hoping that it will catch on & others will rave about it & Yahoo won't discard it like they did 360!!

So, anyway... here's the list for this week's Friday 5... because it's specific STUFF!!!

The Late George Carlin wrote a piece about "Stuff".  Your stuff, my stuff, where we put out stuff, and our attachment to our stuff. For this weeks Friday Five, go around your home and pick out 5 of your "stuff". However this weeks exercise will be very specific on where you get the "stuff".

1. Pick an item from your junk drawer, junk container....where ever you keep your extra "junk" that your not sure when or if you are going to need at some point in the future.

2. Pick a book off  your book shelf...it can be a book, magazine, newspaper...etc...

3. Pick a movie that you have, you've borrowed, down loaded, stole from someone because you liked it so much you keep forgetting to give it back....

4. Pick an article of clothing in your closet or dresser.

5. Pick a food from your fridge or pantry.

List your 5, and tell us why you feel that "stuff" is important to you, what it says about you.

Now for a bonus pick, what is that secret guilty pleasure "stuff" that you didn't want to put on the above list because you thought it might make you look silly or strange or feel stupid for writing it and letting a bunch of folks know about?  Come on...we all have some "stuff" we don't tell everyone about!  Let's have fun!

So, here is my STUFF in a video!
(Please let me know if you like video blogs... I'll do more of them, if you do!!)

Get your own egg here!

Calling all NFL fans...

I could really use some help from you all... as for who to pick in Fantasy Football (FFL).

Now mind you... I already know about the top picks... What I need help with is the Wide Receivers (WR) & the Tight Ends (TE).

Then I'm going to need help putting all my picks into order!! Who should I go for first, 2nd & so on!!

I am participating in my 1st ever LIVE (offline) draft. (No, Dudge, it's not the league I created... it's a different league!) ... If you all remember last year at this time (on 360) I did a blog about how some members of our church has a league set up. Well, this year they expanded it to 14 teams... & it seems I may get to be that 14th team!!! YIPEE!! (I say maybe, because 1 person has not replied yet... & if not, I have to be ready to jump in!!... I'm hoping they don't show! Because I'm all excited about this now!!!)

Even though I'm excited... and even though I participated in a couple leagues last year... I still don't know that much about football... well, not enough about WR & TE to make a decent decision...

I just know that I would like to have Hines Ward (if he isn't drafted before I get him!)

So... for you football fans out there... who are your top picks for WR & TE's.

Keep in mind... I will be the 12th pick 1st round... 3rd pick 2nd round... 12th pick 3rd round & so on. So... I probably won't get to pick players like LT or Tony Romo! (I'll just be thrilled if I can get a few of the Pittsburgh players I want! ... That will be tough... because my hubby & at least one other league member is big Pittsburgh fans!!)

So, any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

(Next blog hopefully will be a video blog!!!)

Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones was an organ donor

Don't know if you heard, but Ohio's 1st black representative died suddenly the other day. She had a brain aneurysm. (She was driving at the time... I do believe it was reported she was able to stop the car before creating an accident. From what I heard on the news a police officer witnessed it. So, help was available immediately.)

ANYWAY, the point I'm making with this... is that she was an organ donor. The Cleveland Plain Dealer says that which organs were donated will not be revealed. (Click that link to read the full story.)

I am not that familiar with Ms. Tubbs Jones... I just recognized the name. However, I just thought it was very interesting to read this story a few days later after her passing.

At some point on Monday I will be posting a blog to honor our favorite Purple Angel's (Quiet Warrior / Mama Di) birthday... ... not sure just yet how we'll keep it a surprise until she arrives... I'll figure it out!

Anyway, Caghs wanted me to get the word out early... So... now, I ask you to help me... will you please pass the word along.... Let's make this a big party for her! :o)

Please do NOT .... I repeat do NOT put this in a mass message... put it in a blog (as this one is) & below your "tags" is "access"... click the circle next to "individuals" & then click whom you wish to see the blog... MAKING SURE you do NOT choose Mama Di. And make sure your blog is NOT public as to where she might see it!!!!

If you've never been to a blog party... it's a hoot! Actually it's just like a big chat session!! :o)

Also, please don't anyone tell her about this... we want it to be a SURPRISE!!! Thanks!!! :o)

So, after a little bit, I just delete them... I'm saying this only because if you send a mass PM's (or reply to one) & it was something you'd want me to see... well, you're going to have to send me another PM... because more than likely I have not seen it after I've read the original message.

Just thought I'd give you all a fair warning! :o)

Are you ready

Yep, it's that time of the year again... Football is under way! Pre-Season started last week & FFL (Fantasy Football Leagues) are in gearing up.

With that said... I am looking for JUST ONE MORE TEAM for my league! For those who are familiar with FFL... my league is with YAHOO & it is not hard at all! We will Auto Pick for draft & we will be going "Ready" in 2 weeks or less.

So, if you are a Football fanatic & would like to join me & 11 other teams in a fight for a virtual trophy (& bragging rights!)... please leave a message below... & I will send you the info needed. 1st one to reply will be in... However... if you see someone already grabbed that last spot... please still speak up... because no teams are "locked" yet. So, I may need a back up!

Oh, by the way... if you love football & have not ever done FFL, my league is easy enough to be able to make this your 1st year! (How easy... well, last year was my 1st year & I WON!!!... ... & I am NOT that knowledgeable in football. I know enough!!)

If you need help, I'm only a click away! :)

Thanks for your time & GO STEELERS!!!!!!!

Mass message solution idea - (Dad you can ignore this entry)

I have several friends concerned when they send mass messages. Concern about cluttering up their friends' in-boxes.

Well, my IDEA actually comes from my project that I am calling "R.E.D." (Rambling Express Diaries")

What I did was I started a GROUP & I made it PRIVATE. Who I invited depended on response I got for it. (a while back).

Anyway... YOU could do the same thing & then invite all your contacts (or those whom you send mass messages to the most) & let them know that is where you will communicate things that you don't wish to share with the public. (Or do like I did... post a blog telling everyone that you're creating the group & those who want to be invited to let you know.) You could use the group like a diary, & having friends read it give you a feeling that you're actually talking to someone... unlike a real diary.)

What is nice about having it as a group & not another "full blown personal site" is that you don't have to log into it. It's accessible for you to use it just like a blog site, but doesn't have a guest book (if you do not want one... Multiply recently added the feature of having a guest book for groups. For groups like this, I feel a guest book wouldn't be necessary... but I am glad they've added it for other types of groups!)

Anyway, to create a group, just click on your group tab at the top & click the link on the right that says "Create a Group". From there you set up the settings & etc. Just be sure you have the name you want for the Group, because you can not go back & change it... just like you can't change your user name for your regular site.

In the setting in the beginning you can set if you want it private or public. You can set it up if you want to be the only one who can invite friends... or you can allow your friends invite others... & so on.

So, next time you think about sending out a mass message... & you wish there was a different way... now you know of a way :o)

If you need help with this or anything else concerning Multiply... please let me know.
Good luck & have fun!!

Boring road courses - NOT

Well, I used to hate watching road courses.

However, the last several times NASCAR has been either at Watkins Glen (like today) or Infenion Raceways... there has been something interesting that has kept us all tuned to the tv to see what will happen next. Last year during a red flag, a fan jumped the fence, went right to the car of Matt Kenseth, stuck his hat through the window of the car, wanting Matt to autograph it.... while Matt was STILL IN THE CAR!!  (Uh... duh! He's a bit busy!! Besides he doesn't have a Sharpie with him!) LOL  (In an interview today, the race reporter hands him a Sharpie... "Just in case." Matt said they felt bad for the guy, not only because he couldn't sign anything but also because the guy got in trouble with security... & so they (the Kenseth team) sent him a bunch of autographed stuff!)

Anyway, today, just as a pit reporter was making comments on the race she said, "Wreck on the track" & the camera cuts to it. The above picture (from Nascar.com) is just a part the "BIG ONE" at The Glen today. A road course is not a type of track you talk about or even expect a big crash.

Someone didn't tell that to the drivers today! With 9 laps to go 9 cars end up in a skirmish at the beginning of pit road off of turn 11.

Even though all the drivers "walked away" they did send Bobby Labonte (#43) to the hospital for observation. He may have a concussion or something because he was actually one, they showed on tv, walking away from his wrecked car. He was limping at 1st... but it didn't last long. The announcers have not said as to why he was taken to the hospital. (He complained of rib soreness, but didn't think it was serious. But they still took him in for observation.) All the other drivers, from what I heard, were treated & release at the infield care center.

Well, after 40 minutes of a red flag they are finally back under way! (Ok, now the race is over... I won't say who the winner is in case anyone is still watching... or needs to watch it!! :o)

This photo (also from Nascar.com) is just after the 77 car hit them barrels there... it was on the driver side, but the safety foam they have in the cars now really took a LOT of the impact!!

Oh... by the way... I do apologize for not doing much for this season as I had hoped. I am thinking of doing a race recap later on of each race & just put a thought or so about what I remember for each race.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

How are we to be sure to watch a show / series when the title before it's even started??

I am stating this because we've seen previews for the new Jay Mohr series... & it was titled "Project Gary"...

Well, I just seen another commercial where it's now called: "Gary Unmarried".

I saw on a CBS message board that someone else saw the change & made the statement... "changing so early does not bode well for the show". I have to agree... that is not a good sign!!

Well, there was one question in this quiz that is a toss up for me... I choose one way & there is no surprise in the results.....

You Belong in Winter

Quiet, calm, and totally at peace...

You're happy to be at home, wrapped in a blanket, completely snowed in

Whether you're lighting a fire or having a snowball fight, you always feel best in the winter.

Go the other way & it's a slight surprise....

You Belong in Fall

Intelligent, introspective, and quite expressive at times...

You appreciate the changes in color, climate, and mood that fall brings

Whether you're carving wacky pumpkins or taking long drives, autumn is a favorite time of year for you

Being that these are my favorite seasons... I guess it's not that much of a surprise!!! I love FALL just as much as Winter... I feel that you can't have / enjoy Winter without first experiencing the autumn crispness & the colors!!

The news says there is... at least they are "teasing" it for their news at 5:00p.m.

I tried to find it on their site... but since they haven't aired the story yet... So, stay tuned... I will try to post a link when I find it.

Let's just say this... they said there are more weddings today & lots of people playing the numbers in the lottery. (So, they said in the teaser commercial!)

Friday Five - Childhood Toys

Here's this week's challenge...

Last week we had a great time remembering all the old commercial jingles, so this week I thought it would be fun to remember 5 of the toys we cherished as a child.  There were some wonderful toys back in the day, let's hear about the one you loved the most!

I was not your typical little girl. I was a bit of a "tom boy". You put me in a room full of dolls & have one little mechanical car or toy among them, & I always went for the mechanical toy!

However, I did have this collection of International Dolls. They were dressed in costumes from their country. Most of them stayed in their box. Last I remember they were in the attic in the farm house. Hmmm... wonder if they are still there?

*note to self, need to ask Mom next time talk with her.*

Now that you know what I was like as a child... some of these toys may make sense now!

Let's see... I remember...
1. The Rubik's Cube (yeah, a teen in the 80's!!)
2. The electronic handheld Merlin (it was like a Simon Says / memory game, (see the picture above)... but I tore it apart to see how it worked. Which I never really figured out! LOL... I can't believe I found a picture of it! It's on eToys.com ... & it's BACK... and has more games on it now. Ahh... but now I've found a picture of the older version... Click on that link above & you'll see what I had!!)
3. Slinky
4. The board game Aggravation
5. I thinking... Those international dolls are the ones that really are what else I'm thinking of... I wish I could remember the brand name on them. I had a collection... & I never did get to finish collecting them. As I said... I wonder if they're still in the attic! :o)

I'll add comments below... if I think of the name... or my mom does!

Hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane, on The Rambling Train.

LAST COMIC STANDING

Tonight we watched last week's show of Last Comic Standing. (Just have to love DVR!) because tomorrow is the finale...
Well, I just looked to be sure it was set to record... I see that our local is not going to air it until 3:05 on Friday MORNING!! Why? Because they're showing the PRESEASON football game of Cleveland vs. NY Jets. ... Ok, I know it's a Cleveland station... but come on... this is a Season Finale of one of a better shows on tv right now. (Right now, being the summer season!!)

SO... with that said... let me give you who hubby & I feel should be... THE LAST COMIC STANDING...

Out of Marcus; Jim Tavare; Louis Ramey; Jeff Dye & Iliza Shelsinger... we say LOUIS RAMEY should be the LAST COMIC STANDING!!

His was absolutely hilarious!!! He did a bit about the 2 Amish boys were arrested for selling drugs... & he said "True story. Amish kids... drugs... You know what's next... gangs?" ... That in it's self is funny... but he continues with... "Yes, I said it... Amish gangs... They got that black suit... & just tilt the hat to the side a little bit... 'Yeah, what's up?!... Amish for life!' " & his facial expressions on top of it, had me laughing so hard I was about to have a asthma attack (remember... I said when my mom; sisters & I laugh hard... we start coughing... like an asthma attack!!) ... Ok... I wasn't going to post the video... but there was more to his set that I just can't do it justice... You'll have to see it for yourself! Before you CLICK the video... make sure you have an inhaler, if you're prone to asthma attacks!! LOL!!

Anyway, Louis Ramey had the best set of all 5 of them... to hubby & I it is a clear choice!! We also think Marcus (only goes by the one name!) & Iliza (don't ask me to type her last name again!) would be tied for 2nd.

Then there is Jim Tavare... he's from the UK & has a big old Bass Chello as part of his act! For me he was my top pick along with Iliza... Until Louis Ramey came out & floored us!

Judge for yourself... (got it off of TVGuide.com) (& the blog picture... Google Images!)...

One more for now

Your Interpersonal Intelligence is High

You are definitely a "people person." You enjoy spending time with others.

You instinctively understand people, and you are both a good counsellor and mediator.

However, there are definitely times when you've had enough. And that's when you cherish being alone.

Yeah... this sounds like me

My friend Barb posted a bunch of these ... so, this is the first of several! :)

I sleep either this way....

What Your Sleeping Position Says

You are secretly sensitive, but you often put up a front.

Shy and private, you yearn for security.

You take relationships slowly.

You need lots of reassurances before you can trust.

If you don't get enough sleep, you are: Cranky and a big baby

It's hard to sleep next to you because: You are a light sleeper

or this way...

What Your Sleeping Position Says

You are calm and rational person with a good deal of balance in your life.

Friends consider you to be kind, caring, and truly loyal.

You are easy going and trusting. However, you are too sensible to fall for mind games.

Open to the world, you are not afraid to be yourself.

If you don't get enough sleep, you are: Able to cope

It's hard to sleep next to you because: You're a bed hog

But usually on my side since I am on the couch!

Funny headline

Rating:
Category:Other
Ok... this is not really that funny of a story... but the headline (as it reads right now) is...

"Ohio inmate says he's too fat for execution". Wonder if that would make it to Jay Leno's Headlines!! LOL!!

As I said ... the story is NOT funny!
btw... I found this on Yahoo Headlines under the NATIONAL news tab!!

What's even scarier... is that the photo they have is when the guy was at MANCI... which is the LOCAL prison!!! YIKES!!!!

Another trip to the vet

This time I went to get the meds for Sunny's rash. I came home & was actually able to give to with Peanut Butter... usually both her & Coleman will end up working it to the front of their mouth & spitting it out. Luckily not this time!

Also, they gave me medicated shampoo & some more of that "rinse". She has to be bathed 2 times a week with the shampoo... I don't know how I'm going to do this... because it's hard on the back!!

Today I put her in the kitchen sink (pictures to be posted later on their site!) & she was SO stiff legged that it was hard to get her underside... where she really needed it the most!

OH... & the directions said to leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes... Now, whoever wrote them directions must not have ever given a dog a bath... Because 9 times out of 10... at some point they will shake 1/2 way through the bath.

HOWEVER... Some how... some way... I kept Sunny from shaking during bath time... Though soon as I got her out & sat with her on the couch to dry her off... she shook & shook... So, I put her on the floor & started drying her & she had the mind to bury her head into the towel... & Then she tried to roll around to get that "clean" smell off... WHILE I WAS STILL TRYING TO DRY HER!!! LOL!! She is SOOOO silly!

Well, that's the ride for today! Have a great day!! :o)
